We ran out of time today but I think that it was important
that we let the conversation carry as long as it did, particularly the
conversation regarding the inferences you made from chapters 2 and 3. The inferences
made today were based on the text, but more importantly they were thoughtful. No
one blurted out the first thing that came to mind. Rather, you put yourself in
the characters shoes and reacted to the text as you would a real-life event. Truly
engaging with text requires that kind of imagination, so well done.
Tonight’s homework has a few steps to it, so read closely:
1. Read the summaries of chapters 4 and 5 provided for you
in our shared “TKAM Readings” folder.
2. Read chapter 6. A PDF is provided for you in our shared “TKAM Readings” folder. (NOTE: I am not grading your annotation of chapter 6).
3. Make a timeline of the major events in chapter 6. (NOTE: Choose 8-10 events; you do not need to thoroughly explain them; rather, write a short summary simply stating what happens.)
4. Choose 2 events from that list that are suspenseful and explain what makes them so. (NOTE: Explain as fully as you can why the events you have chosen are suspenseful and tension-filled; be sure to include evidence /quotes; your explanations should be at least 8-10 sentences long.)
