Blue:
I love talking about language. Power Point presentations can
get very boring very quickly, but today was fun. On Friday, we will be look at
the dialects present in TKAM and discussing
why Harper Lee would choose to include it in her text. In addition, we will be
looking very closely at the language used to describe First Purchase
Church and its parishioners
in order to make some well-informed inferences. Your homework tonight is meant
to be preparation for that.
Read the summary for chapter 7 and all of chapter 12. While
you read, annotate pages 4-7 of chapter 12 with the following question in mind:
“What is Harper Lee indirectly telling you about the Black community of Maycomb County with her descriptions of First
Purchase?”
As for tomorrow, be sure
to remember your books for "Sustained Silent Reading" time. It's too
important to skip, even on a half-day.
Word hard: luck means nothing.
We’ll talk tomorrow.
