It starts...

If anyone came here yesterday looking for answers regarding this weekend’s homework, I didn’t post anything because I needed a day away from all things technology. In the future, if you have a question and there’s nothing new posted on our class blog or Twitter feed, email me directly at acinelli@revere.mec.edu as I have been instructing you to since school started. Now that I’m refreshed, let’s get started…

Things get real this weekend: the final draft of your first high school essay is due on Monday and you were assigned a subtle, intricate, 10-page short story to read and annotate. Those two assignments in and of themselves are not difficult to do, but since the tech stuff has been giving us some issues—especially me—I just wanted to re-state some directions for how to submit your essay drafts, where to submit your essay drafts, and how to use PDF-Notes Free to annotate and then submit your homework.

“This I Believe”

By Monday, all 3 drafts of your belief essay are due: your original first draft, the second draft that you followed my “self-revision guidelines” to make (it should have colored font all over it), and a final draft with all of the new changes written in. Here are some last minute things to check and instructions on how to submit your work.

- All 3 drafts should be separate word documents in CloudOn.
- To submit the drafts to me, you need to “click and drag” the files into your Dropbox folder labeled “ELA Submissions – Your Last Name, Your First Name”. To “click and drag,” long press on the file in CloudOn. When the horizontal bar the file is on turns white, slide your finger to the folder labeled “ELA Submissions – Your Last Name, Your First Name”. Then let go of the screen. IMPORTANT: If you put the file in the folder labeled “FA ELA Files – Blue Class,” the entire class will be able to read it.
- Give me the hardcopy of your graphic organizer in class tomorrow, even if you wrote about a different belief than what’s there.
- Email me at acinelli@revere.mec.edu with any specific questions.

"The Stone Boy"

As for the short story, you have to read and annotate using the app called PDF-Notes Free. To do so…

- Open your Dropbox using the Dropbox app
- Select “FA ELA Files – Blue Class”
- Select the folder labeled “Short Stories”
- Select the file labeled “SB The Stone Boy.pdf”
- After the story comes up on your screen, press the “Action Button” in the top, right-hand corner. It should be directly under the battery indicator.
- Open the file in “PDF-Notes Free”
- The story should load and be readable automatically. Once you’re in, write all over the text using the many different tools the app allows you to have, just like we discussed in class. NOTE: After you load it once, you don’t have to go through Dropbox anymore. If you do, it’ll create new files and you’ll be starting from scratch every time.
- To save your annotation, follow these steps: press the “Action Button” in the bottom left-hand corner. You might have to tap outside of the text file to bring up the toolbars.
- Select “annotated pdf file…,” the fourth option down.
- Select “to clouds”
- Select “link”
- Put it anywhere in your Dropbox. Don’t submit it to me yet. We are going to be discussing the story in class as well as adding to your annotations together, so wait. As long as it’s saved and you can open up your work in class, you’re fine.

That’s all for now. As always, if you  have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to ask.

Work hard: luck means nothing.
