Blues:
Today was a big discussion day, but it was a big one as we continued to introduce some of the central issues addressed in Cisneros' book, namely the question of identity, where identity comes from, and the importance of our names as representatives of who we are. Tomorrow, we will discuss how our homes and neighborhoods reflect who we are, however fairly or unfairly.
Tonight you were assigned pages 3-11 and the question, "what can you tell about the speaker based on WHAT she talks about and HOW she talks about it?" Read closely and don't be fooled by how "easy" the text seems on the surface level. Remember that this is a subtle text and that each vignette is a brief snapshot contributing to a bigger picture. So look for patterns and repeated ideas, images, and feelings.
That is all. If you have any questions, find the answers. If you run out of options, email me.
Word hard: luck means nothing.
